In Belarus we celebrate many
interesting holidays.
New
Year is a great holiday in our country. Everybody likes it very much. It is
especially loved by little children. People do not go to work on that day, and children do not go to school. This holiday is considered to
be a family holiday. It is usually celebrated at home among the members of the
family.
People
decorate their houses and usually have a fir-tree which stands in the corner of
the room. Those fir-trees are very beautiful. The presents are usually put
under these trees. Our parents prepare to this holiday well. They buy a New
Year tree, decorated it, buy
a lot of tasty food and drinks. At twelve o’clock in the night people can see
the president on TV which addresses them with traditional words of
congratulation. At this time people are sitting at the tables to their holiday
dinner.

Easter
Easter
is one of the most important Christian
holiday. Preparation for Easter
starts seven weeks before the actual holiday. It’s called the advent of Lent. Many
Christian people don' t eat meat and animal products during this period. The
week before Easter is quite busy because people start thoroughly preparing for the holiday.

Kupalle
Kupalle is
celebrated in the night from 6 July to 7 July. Years ago young girls went into the meadows to collect plants and herbs – corn flowers, ferns.
The
central part in Kupalle
celebration was a fire,
which symbolized life and Yaryla and drove away death. During the day
young men would prepare the place to start the fire.
People
would stay up till early morning hours. They followed rituals during the celebration –jumping over the fire, bathing in the river, rolling in the glass due. People look
for a blossoming fern flower – «Paparats-kvetka».
Special
ritual food was happily on fire – fried eggs, kulaha, vareniki.
A lot
of this tradition is followed today.
